Green Mountain Digital is an innovative digital media publisher and the mobile apps market leader in nature and wildlife. The company designs and publishes authoritative and comprehensive mobile applications that work to engage users with the natural world around them. Green Mountain Digital was created in 2009 in Woodstock, VT with the purpose of combining and transforming information about nature, the adventure of education, and the power of digital technology, into an enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

David Roberts

CEO and Chairman of the Board

David Roberts is Chairman and co-founder of Green Mountain Digital. From October 2009 to January 2012 he served as the company's CEO/President. In this capacity he guided the company to a leadership position in the digital field guide market through 27 apps under the Audubon branding; oversaw the expansion to new partner relationships such as the Orvis Company and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology; and played a lead role in raising over $5 million in investor capital. Mr. Roberts retired from Citibank/Citicorp/Citigroup after a 27 year career where he was active in global corporate banking, senior line management in overseas locations including CEO of Citibank's businesses in the Indian sub-continent, strategic planning at the corporate level, and country risk management. He subsequently became involved as a founding shareholder and Board Member of Impax Corp, an e-learning company eventually sold to Nasdaq-listed Skillsoft. Roberts has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, AZ; Vice Chair of the Board of Occidental College in Los Angeles; Board member of the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation in Plymouth Notch, Vermont; and Board member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges in Washington D.C. Mr. Roberts has served in the United States Air Force, is a graduate of Occidental College and holds a Masters degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Katharine Kelley


Katharine has over 20 years of experience in publishing and entertainment finance. Prior to joining GMD Ms. Kelley was an independent management consultant providing financial planning, analysis and reporting, and business decision services to senior management. Ms. Kelley was Director of Finance for International Creative Management in New York for 12 years, where, in addition to building on her solid foundation in accounting, and finance, she developed valuation expertise in several areas, including: print publishing, artistic rights and licensing and royalty, and cash flow forecasting. Ms. Kelley has an undergraduate degree from Brown University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Charles F. Rattigan

Executive Vice President

Charles is responsible for App Development. He is an award-winning producer of film and video with an MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology's School of Imaging Arts/Film. He is an expert in the production of multi-media communication. His productions have been distributed world-wide and appeared on PBS, ESPN, and National Geographic. His documentary productions for the National Park Service, the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, and others have been seen by hundreds of thousands of viewers. He has been nominated for an Emmy and has received three Telly awards (2007, 2008, 2009) for Outstanding Creative Use of Media.

Marie Cole

Creative Director

Marie joined the Green Mountain Digital Team in early 2009 and has become a key member of the staff. Her unique combination of creativity and organizational skills has proved invaluable to our operations. A native Vermonter, Marie received a B.F.A. from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida and returned home to Vermont. Prior to working at GMD, Marie managed the Simon Pearce Engraving Department and helped to establish their in-house art/marketing department. When not working, Marie enjoys the outdoors with her two boys and their dog, Lenny.

David Tyler

Director, Strategic Partnerships

David is responsible for identifying, establishing, and maintaining Green Mountain Digital's strategic partnerships.  David comes to GMD after 8 years of experience with Apple in their consumer and business enterprise facing businesses in San Diego.  While in this role, David established and lead a business sales team in securing and maintaining lucrative high profile relationships with multiple Fortune 500 companies including Qualcomm, Lenovo, Intuit, and Sony Online Entertainment.  David earned his bachelors degree in communications from the University of California San Diego. David is passionate about the outdoors and spends weekends hiking, kayaking, fishing, and when the weather's right snowshoeing, with his wife Michelle and his dog Mattie, in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont.

Andy Stewart

Founder and Board Member

Andrew Stewart is an original Founder and Publisher of Green Mountain Digital. His career in publishing includes several years as New York counsel to the Times Mirror Company, where he was counsel to Newsday, New American Library, and a number of other book publishers, newspapers and magazine publishers. He has served as President, Publisher and CEO of Harry N. Abrams, Inc.; founder, Publisher and CEO of Stewart, Tabori & Change; Publisher of Chanticleer Press, Inc.; founder of eNature.com; CEO of Chanticleer's successor, Andrew Stewart Publishing, Inc.; and co-founder of Green Mountain Digital. Mr. Stewart has served on the boards of Earthwatch, The Vermont Council of Arts, The Vermont Studio Center and the Vermont chapter of the Conservation Law Foundation. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia, and holds law degrees from Yale and Columbia.

Hank Smith

Chairman of the Executive Compensation Committee

Hank Smith is a Board Member and Chairman of Executive Compensation Committee at Green Mountain Digital. He has extensive operating and investment experience with both start-up and established companies. He has spent ten years in management and operating positions with IBM, Fairchild Semiconducter, and Intel Corporation. Smith also has experience in the financial sector; he previously served as General Partner of Venrock, the venture capital arm of the Rockefeller Family, and has invested in a wide range of businesses, including several Minor League baseball teams and multiple hotels. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering From Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University.

William Stengel

Chairman of the
Audit Committee

William Stengel is a board member and Chairman of the Audit Committee at Green Mountain Digital. He is a former Managing Director of Citigroup/Citibank NA with over 30 years of corporate banking experience. He has extensive board experience and is currently an independent director of Holly Energy Partners, LP, a NYSE-listed petroleum pipeline company, and LifeFlight Foundation, an air medical service company in Maine. Mr. Stengel has a BA from Princeton University and an MBA from Columbia University.

Mark Yardley

Board Member

The consummate outdoorsman, Mark has been an executive in the outdoor/action sports market for over 19 years.  His path began in brand creation and market strategy which morphed in driving sales and marketing for the boutique bike brand FAT CITY CYCLES.  From there he leaped into the world of motorsports where he served as the Category Leader of consumer outerwear for GORE-TEX® motorsports.  The past six years have been spent as Sales Leader for the GORE-TEX® and WINDSTOPPER® brands in the Mountain Sport, Hunt/Fish, Motorsport and Watersports markets.  Mark is also a strategist on the Global Mountain Sports Business Team for W.L. Gore’s consumer outerwear business. He has an undergraduate degree from University of Maryland and an MBA from Loyola University.

David Bradbury

Board Observer

With over 20 years involved in capital markets, early stage technology firms and venture investing, David now serves as President of the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies (VCET), a leading technology incubation and seed capital program. His blog on entrepreneurship and technology is www.TechCrib.org.  David serves as Board Director, Investor or Adviser to several Vermont companies and non-profit organizations including Cynosure, Union Street Media (Internet Services), Rising Stone Technologies (Biomass Energy), JSmart Technologies (Mobile Gaming and Social Networking Firm Acquired by SK Group in 2004), OneMade (E-Commerce Platform Acquired by AOL Time Warner in 2003), Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Assembly of Overseers (2005-2008), Vermont Tech Enterprise Center (2003-Present), The Vermont Business and Education Partnership (1994-1997), UVM’s Vermont Regional Alumni Board (2007 to Present), and the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts (2001-2005) among others. In 1988, David earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Vermont and then ten years later in 1998, he earned a M.B.A. in one-year from Babson College focusing on Entrepreneurship and Venture Finance.

David McGowan

David McGowan is a widely experienced media and telecoms executive in the U.S. and Europe. He currently serves as the CEO of Invitel, a digital triple-play services provider based in Budapest and serving residential, business, and government customers in Hungary. He has previously held senior management positions at operators in Germany, Switzerland, and the U.K., and at Time Inc. and in public television in the U.S. McGowan is also Chairman of the Woodstock Digital Media Festival, an annual event in Woodstock, Vermont. He is a cum laude graduate of Yale University.
