Breaking Down The Cost Of LMV License In Dubai

Getting a light motor vehicle (LMV) license in Dubai includes several steps, and each part of the process carries its own fee. From registration to testing, candidates can expect different types of payments depending on the driving school and the number of attempts mandatory.

Initial registration fees:

The process of LMV license usually begins with registration at an approved driving school. This includes file opening, eye test, and document handling. The cost of registration ranges from AED 800 to AED 1,500. Some packages combine the registration with a few early lessons.

Theory classes and test:

All new drivers must attend theory classes and pass a written exam. The fee for these classes and the test typically falls between AED 800 and AED 1,200. Some schools provide online access to materials, which may carry an extra cost if printed copies or additional support is requested.

Driving lessons package:

The largest part of the total cost is the training package. Schools offer various plans depending on the learner’s background. For first-time learners, a standard package may include 20 to 40 hours of training. Prices range from AED 4,500 to AED 7,000 depending on the school, timing (regular or VIP), and lesson format (individual or group).

Those who hold an existing license from another country may be eligible for fewer lessons, which can reduce the package fee.

Internal assessment charges:

Before attending the final road test, learners must complete internal assessments such as parking tests, garage tests, and simulation drives. Each attempt is charged separately, with fees ranging from AED 200 to AED 400 per test.

Final RTA road test and file charges:

The final road test with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is mandatory. Booking the RTA test usually includes file handling, test booking, and administration fees. This section may cost between AED 300 and AED 600, depending on the driving center.

Re-test and extra class charges:

If the learner fails any part of the assessment, there are additional fees for re-tests and extra lessons. Retaking a test may cost AED 200 to AED 400. Extra practical classes are usually priced per hour, with rates ranging from AED 150 to AED 250.

Total estimated cost:

For a first-time applicant who completes the course and tests in one attempt, the total cost of getting an LMV license in Dubai may range between AED 6,000 and AED 9,000. Those requiring more lessons or retakes may spend more based on the number of attempts.
